Fitness Racing Continues to Thrive with YOHKA Sports at the Forefront

Obstacle, adventure or fitness racing – whatever you call it, there’s no doubt that people around the world love this dynamic sport. Aussie-born fitness racing brand, YOHKA Sports, recently announced the appointment of Todd Liubinskas as CEO and with the sport gaining serious momentum on a global level, he takes the reigns moving into an exciting era of innovation and growth.

The continued rise of fitness racing

Tough Mudder, True Grit, Spartan, HYROX… chances are you’ve either participated in one of these in the past 5 years or you know someone who has. The lure of fitness racing reaches amateurs who are looking for an outdoors adventure that can be done with friends and collect some great fodder for the Instagram reel as well as diehard athletes who want to push themselves to the brink physically.

The diverse appeal of obstacle racing and the cleverly planned entry level and team events make them accessible to a range of fitness levels. Once participants have had a taste, they’re often set to return, whether it’s to create more memories and laughs or to better their past results.

Fitness racing also makes for great viewing. The return of Search4Hurt to television screens last year was a brilliant way for the uninitiated to get a look at what some of these endurance events can look like (both the glory and the gory bits). Another exciting development is that the International Olympic Committee has confirmed that fitness racing will be included as an event at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

YOHKA Sports has the exact hundred meter short course that the Olympics will use in the Modern heptathlon. Through our world class first to market events in 2025, we aim to find the next future Australian representative for the modern heptathlon. What better way to elevate the sport than by highlighting young athletes coming through in the Australian health and fitness and sporting community.” says CEO Todd Liubinskas.

YOHKA set to grow as a major player in fitness racing

YOHKA Sports has been named as the first Olympic fitness racing sport, with Red Bull confirmed as a partner. It will be an incredible opportunity for the home-grown brand to reach the world stage, with YOHKA events already running in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Fiji and the United States.

The brand offers a variety of action-packed events, including a 100m Short Course, a 5km Course, a 10km Course, and its thrilling Pursuit Course that tests participants’ agility, speed, and strategy in a custom-designed obstacle arena.

YOHKA sits in the capable hands of highly respected leader in the fitness, sports and business world, Todd Liubinskas. The former footy player, turned Strength and Conditioning Coach has worked with the Wallabies, Rugby 7’s and New Zealand Rugby League as well as being the Fitness Director for Men’s Health Australia and cofounder of The 440 Club.

“From the age of 18 I’ve been fortunate enough to work with global brands Like Reebok, Lululemon, Men’s Health Magazine, Optus Sport and play sport at the highest level across rugby league and rugby union allowing me to meet some phenomenal mentors in my career.” says Todd. “I’ve always been mindful to surround myself with individuals that I can learn from, underpinned with a focus on personal growth in terms of my education and my business acumen.”

Todd says his mission at YOHKA is to create transformative sporting experiences through fitness and obstacle racing. “This role is so exciting for me as it speaks to my wheelhouse of skills that I love and I’m passionate about in business. Bringing amazing events into the health and fitness and sporting community is a real opportunity to entertain and to highlight the next emerging athletes in this country.”

Upcoming YOHKA events in 2025

To experience YOHKA for yourself, either as an athlete or an attendee, the YOHKA ROYALE event will be held on the 29th and 30th of March in Penrith, Sydney. YOHKA is also running as a sprint series in Melbourne at the AusFitness Expo. This event will consist of fast-paced action on a 100m short course obstacle race, with each competitor aiming to better the world record of just under 30 seconds.

“You can expect a hive activity around our intense tag event. With each round lasting for 20 seconds, there’s jumping, ducking, diving. There could even be some rolls. You never know what’s gonna happen in that event,” said Todd. “Along with that, some amazing partners, that you can sample product, immerse yourself in our recovery station, and you never know which celebrity you might find at our event too… and to top it all off music and the ability to connect back to the health and fitness community. We are so excited to bring this brand to life!”
