Gold’s Gym Expands Australian Footprint With New Brisbane Site Announced

Iconic global brand, Gold’s Gym is set to take over the site of Brisbane’s first big box gym in Yeerongpilly. The former World Gym premises opened in 2008 and underwent a sudden debranding in mid 2023. The announcement by Gold’s Gym to seize the site is the latest move in their plans to become a significant player in the Australian fitness scene.

How many Gold's Gyms are in Australia?

The Yeerongpilly site brings the current Gold’s Gym footprint to 11 locations across three states in Australia. The brand is actively prospecting both regional and metropolitan areas across the country for suitable locations to extend its reach.

Glen Farrow, Chief Operating Officer of Gold’s Gym Australia, said, “Gold’s Gym is a massive global fitness powerhouse with 700+ locations worldwide so Yeerongpilly’s transformation into the Gold’s Gym family signals a huge shift for their members and the broader community.”

The Yeerongpilly site owners are keen to cast their own net further and have plans to secure more sites in and around Brisbane for additional club locations.

What can members expect at Gold Gym Yeerongpilly?

Club Manager, Ruby Warren (pictured below) said, “This move isn’t just about changing banners, colours, and signage, it’s about amplifying what our community loves and to do that we’re embracing a grander, more powerful vision inspired by the spirit of the original Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California.”

Gold’s Gym Yeerongpilly will have indoor/outdoor training with open airflow similar to Gold’s Gym Venice Beach. “The indoor/outdoor feel, along with the introduction of Muscle Park, is our way of bringing a strong slice of that iconic beach atmosphere to Brisbane”, said Ruby.

The abrupt debranding of World Gym at the same site in 2023 left some of its members in disarray. The new crew from Gold’s Gym are committed to providing an exceptional experience to members and are eager to begin a new legacy together.

“Our priority was to ensure current members were the first to know of the new partnership and the feedback has been fantastic so far which we’re all incredibly happy about,” said Ruby. “The whole team is dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community in the area and we really encourage any local businesses who may be interested in partnering with us to please reach out.”

Why is Gold's Gym so famous?

The iconic logo and the name Gold’s Gym is synonymous with the imagery of the bodybuilding greats of the 1960s and 70s. Originally a small gym located in Venice Beach, California, Gold’s became a bodybuilding Mecca when it was featured in the 1975 documentary, Pumping Iron. The street cred earned by Gold’s Gym has developed into a globally recognised brand with more than six hundred locations around the world. Gold’s Gym now spans six continents and holds cult-like status among the worldwide fitness industry.

“We’re very aware that Gold’s Gym is one of the most well-known and respected names in the fitness industry worldwide” says Ruby. “When the opportunity came to partner with Gold’s Gym the team jumped at the chance! Bodybuilding greats like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, and Franco Columbo all trained at Gold’s and we’re excited to build our legacy here at Gold’s Gym Yeerongpilly.”
