What is SurfAid?
SurfAid is an incredible organisation that supports remote communities in Indonesia and the Solomon Islands with healthcare and education. You can support their mission by raising money while doing what you love – surfing! Make A Wave is SurfAid’s challenge to surf 30 days in the month of September and in doing so, raise money to improve the health, well-being, and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions.
If you’re ready to turn your passion for surfing into a force for good, register with the SurfAid community and start making a difference, one wave at a time.

How Does SurfAid Work?
SurfAid works by organising various fundraising events and campaigns that revolve around surfing. One of the most popular ways they raise money is through surf competitions, known as SurfAid Cups. Surfers from around the world participate in these competitions and the entry fees or sponsorships they collect go directly towards supporting SurfAid’s programs. This not only allows surfers to showcase their skills and connect with like-minded individuals but also gives them the opportunity to contribute to a cause they are passionate about. Additionally, SurfAid organises charity surf trips where surfers can join and experience some of the best waves in the world, while also raising funds for SurfAid. These trips often include surf coaching, cultural experiences, and the chance to meet the local communities that SurfAid supports.
Another way SurfAid raises funds through surfing is by partnering with brands and organising collaborative initiatives. They work with surf companies to create limited edition products, such as surfboards, t-shirts, or accessories, where a portion of the sales goes towards supporting SurfAid’s programs. This not only helps raise funds but also raises awareness about SurfAid’s mission within the surfing community. SurfAid also relies on individual surfers who are willing to take on personal fundraising challenges. These surfers can set up their own fundraising pages and encourage their friends, family, and fellow surfers to donate towards SurfAid’s cause.
Make A Wave this September:
Spring into Spring and shake off the Winter blues by signing up for Make A Wave this September. SurfAid challenges you to surf for 30 days this September and to ask your friends and family to donate to this great cause. Apparently, it takes 21 days to form a habit, so if you’ve been meaning to get in the water more, this is the perfect way to set yourself up for some good momentum as we head toward the warmer months.
Why not get a group together, whether it’s your friends or your local gym members, and set up a leader board to motivate each other? There’s also plenty of time to get organised so you can start limbering up and check that your wetsuit still fits!
