Garmin Release New Golfing Products

Introducing new golfing products from Garmin: Approach® G10, Approach® S20 and TruSwing™

Garmin Australia today announced three new golfing products, coming soon to Australia. New products include the Approach G10 – the smallest golf GPS device from Garmin, the Approach S20 – the golfing partner that doubles as an everyday watch, and TruSwing – the first golf club swing sensor from Garmin.

“Our golfing category is extremely popular so we’re excited to be offering Australian customers three great new golfing products this year,” said Matt DeMoss, General Manager for Garmin Australasia.

“The Approach G10 offers golfers the data they need at a great value. It’s totally versatile with a clip-on design, so it gives golfers an advantage on the course, no matter where in the world they play.

“With the S20, we’re excited to announce a new entry-level golf watch with distances to hazards. With a stylish look, the new AutoShot feature, TruSwing compatibility and activity tracking, the Approach S20 takes golfers seamlessly from the links to everyday life.

“Finally, we’re thrilled to bring a club sensor to our Approach customers with TruSwing. With feedback that can instantly be sent to the user’s wrist and detailed information like 3D animation available in Garmin Connect, TruSwing gives golfers a unique training experience unlike anything else on the market. It provides golfers the information they need to improve their swing within seconds; it’s almost like having their own personal golf pro available 24/7.”

APPROACH G10

The Approach G10 is a sleek, pocket-sized golf GPS device that fits almost anywhere. Compact, lightweight and user-friendly, the Approach G10 comes preloaded with data for more than 40,000 courses right out of the box, with no additional fees or subscriptions. The G10 measures precise distances to the front, back and middle of the green in large, easy to read numbering on a 1.3” sunlight readable display. It also displays distances to course targets like sand traps, water hazards and more, as well as layups and doglegs. Golfers can use the Green View feature to see the outline of the green on each hole, where they can manually position the pin to that day’s location in order to get the most accurate measurements. Additionally, the Approach G10 can measure individual shot distances and calculate yardage for shots played anywhere on the course.

The Approach G10 acts as a digital scorecard throughout each round played and can track individual stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round. Data is uploaded and stored in Garmin Connect, so golfers can record their round and review it. Within Garmin Connect, G10 users can access all their stats, like average score, total putts and more. G10 users can also do a full course analysis to see hole-by-hole details, as well as trends and tendencies to work for the next round. Additionally, the Approach G10 has a built-in odometer, so golfers can see their distance covered during each round.

With up to 15 hours’ of battery life in GPS mode, the Approach G10 can get through multiple rounds of golf on a single charge. Despite its lightweight and compact design, the G10 is also rugged with an IPX-7 water rating, so it can withstand the elements if golfers get caught in a sudden rainstorm.

Availability
The Approach G10 will be available in Australia in March 2016 for a recommended retail price of $199.

APPROACH S20

Stylish, sleek and lightweight, the Approach S20 GPS golf watch boasts the new AutoShot round analyser feature, which automatically records the location and distance of every shot and uploads it to Garmin Connect account for post-round analysis. Additionally, the S20 can be paired with the new TruSwing sensor to provide the user with in-depth swing metrics to improve their swing consistency. Through CourseView auto updater on the Garmin Connect mobile app, Approach S20 users can have updates to the courses they play the most sent to their watch automatically, making sure they always have the most up-to-date course data.

The Approach S20 uses high-sensitivity GPS and comes preloaded with data for more than 40,000 courses around the world with no additional fees or subscriptions. It measures precise distances to the front, back and middle of the green in large, easy-to-read numbers on a sunlight readable display. Additionally, the Approach S20 measures distances to course targets like sand traps, water hazards and more, as well as layups and doglegs. Golfers can use the Green View feature to see the outline of the green on each hole, where they can manually position the pin to that day’s location in order to get the most accurate measurements.

In addition to the digital scorecard that can be used in each round, the Approach S20 can also track individual stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round. With a compatible smartphone[1], data will automatically be uploaded and stored in the Garmin Connect mobile app, so golfers can track their progress over time and share with friends. Within Garmin Connect, S20 users can access all their stats, like average score, total putts and more.

When using the AutoShot feature, S20 users can gather even more data like the average distance for each club, longest drive per round and overall. They can even see all their shots overlaid onto one map to see their own personal trends and tendencies, so they know what to work on for the next round.

In addition to the golf features, the S2 boasts daily activity tracking[2] which monitors and records daily steps, calories burned, distance and sleep, with move alerts to keep users active throughout the day. The S20 also receives smart notifications from compatible smartphones, so users can stay connected with notifications for call, texts, emails and more right on their watch.

The Approach S20 can get up to 15 hours of battery life in GPS mode and up to 8 weeks in watch mode with activity tracking. It boasts a 5 ATM water rating, so it can easily withstand the elements.

Availability
The Approach S20 will be available in Australia in February 2016 in black, white and midnight teal for a recommended retail price of $299.

TRUSWING

Garmin’s TruSwing is the company’s first golf club sensor accessory. The small, lightweight and easy-to-use sensor measures the swing metrics golfers need to improve their game. Unlike other swing sensors currently on the market, TruSwing syncs wirelessly to a variety of Approach® devices[3] so golfers can get instant swing feedback right on their wrist after each swing. For even more information, golfers can use TruSwing with the recently updated Garmin Connect™ mobile app on their smartphone or tablet to get detailed data like 3D animations, or to review their entire swing session.

TruSwing is an easy-to-use sensor that’s ideal for golfers at any level, whether they’re new to the game or have been playing for years. Perfect to use either at the driving range or during a round, TruSwing gives golfers advanced swing metrics at-a-glance for easy analysis just seconds after every swing. Data can be displayed on the crisp, sunlight readable screen of an Approach watch or handheld, as well as on a smartphone or tablet through the Garmin Connect mobile app. Data is transmitted after each swing, so golfers are able to analyse and improve their swing during each session. What this means to a golfer:

  • Ball Flight:Club path, face angle and shaft angle are three of the metrics that TruSwing provides that affect what direction the ball goes. This helps golfers understand what adjustments they need to make to hit the ball straighter
  • Trajectory: Shaft lean and face angle affect the dynamic loft, which impacts the trajectory the ball flies. Golfers can use these metrics to practice taking off or adding loft to their shots
  • Distance: How far the ball goes is related to how fast the club head is traveling and where on the club face the ball is hit. Golfers can use the swing tempo metric to improve swing consistency and see how it affects club head speed

Additionally, TruSwing collects data to produce 3D swing animations through the Garmin Connect mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. With these animated diagrams, golfers can view side-by-side swing comparisons to analyse their data in real-time, so they’re aware of their own specific areas for improvement. Individual swings can be analysed and two swings can be overlaid on top of each other to compare and contrast so golfers know what to focus on next time. Golfers who use TruSwing with an Approach S6 watch will have access to the Advanced Swing Animations, which provides golfers with additional wrist path data to show where their forearm is throughout the swing.

All data that’s collected is stored in one place within Garmin Connect. Each session is organised by date, so users can go back to see each individual swing and how they’ve improved since then. Garmin Connect can show golfers’ overall cumulative stats, as well as stats per session, which can be broken down by clubs used.

Weighing only 28 grams and measuring only 2.4”, TruSwing has an unobtrusive design that can be securely attached to any club below the grip. The robust attachment offers a firm grasp on the club, and the simple, quick design makes swapping between clubs a breeze. TruSwing can get up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge with plenty of storage to make it through multiple rounds before uploading to Garmin Connect. TruSwing boasts an IPX-7 water rating.

Availability
TruSwing will be available in Australia in February 2016 for a recommended retail price of $229.
