Bodybump is an innovative exercise program for pregnant women, running on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
Bodybump provides a range of small and medium sized group classes as well as specialist aqua and exercise classes for pregnant women on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
Jo Ford, the founder of Bodybump, wanted to use her own experience in pregnancy as a building block to help support other women who were looking to enhance and maintain their fitness in pregnancy. Jo wanted to counteract the many mixed messages about how much exercise is suitable and the safety of certain activities, so she set up Bodybump to provide evidence-based advice that is supported by local and national guidelines. All of Jo’s instructors have undergone specialist training in pregnancy exercise to ensure participants receive a safe and personalised program to suit their individual needs.
Bobybump classes finish with some quiet time to allow participants to relax and focus on connecting with their baby, whether this is a short meditation at the end of a class or her unique ‘pregnancy float’ experience at the end of the aqua class.
Jo’s husband, Jolyon Ford, works at the nearby Frankston Hospital and at the Bays Hospital, as a consultant obstetrician. At the Bays he looks after his private patients and as part of his regular consultations he touches on the importance of exercise. This referral often leads to participation, although more and more public sector patients are attending the classes as well, which Jo is thoroughly enjoying as well. Jo and her husband are also well set up to ensure that any of his private patients can receive individualised exercise prescription, where required.
