Nixon Release The Mission Smartwatch

California-based watch and accessories brand Nixon has announced that it will release its highly anticipated smartwatch, The Mission, on 11 October, 2016.

Built on Android Wear™, Google’s smartwatch platform and equipped with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 2100 system-on-chip (SoC), The Mission is the world’s first ultra-rugged smartwatch.

Featuring a category first 10-ATM (100m) water resistance rating, The Mission is built to withstand an active lifestyle in the water, on the mountain and beyond. Housed in a custom-moulded, shockproof and stainless steel case with an ultra-durable Corning™ Gorilla™ Glass crystal and a 316L grade stainless steel bezel, The Mission is tough enough to withstand the elements. The Mission utilises the best of Android Wear including integration with Google Fit, Google Maps, Google Now notifications, and the voice search and action capabilities of “OK Google”.

Built with hardware ready to support the next generation of software, the watch also features a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports and third party app compatibility. Pairing this innovative software with an ultra-rugged, water-resistant design and standalone GPS allows individuals to enjoy The Mission’s technology and third party apps regardless of environment conditions.

Nixon will offer multiple customisation options for The Mission through its Nixon Custom Bar stores in Sydney (Bondi Junction) and Melbourne (Chadstone), giving consumers more than 44,000 configurable case, bezel, band, and face options.

An immersive, high fidelity 3D modelling environment will guide consumers through the customisation process, where they can build off of a black or concrete coloured case with 12 bezel options available in a variety of finishes, such as solid stainless steel, IP plated steel and a hard-wearing Cerakote™ paint finish.

The custom bands are offered in 24 durable, dual-layer silicone colours. Individuals can choose their own inscription or custom Nixon logos for the case back and set the full-colour digital display to mirror the faces of Nixon’s leading watch models, including: The Sentry, The Player, The Ranger and The Unit, as well as The Mission and Mission Pro watch faces. As a final customisation touch, consumers will have the option to purchase multiple bands allowing them to change up the look of their Mission at home.

In addition to the full capabilities of the Android Wear platform, the smartwatch introduces two custom Nixon applications: the namesake Mission app and the Mission Trace app. The Mission app puts your world on your wrist with live ocean and mountain conditions information available at a glance. The app’s Shred Alerts, powered by Surfline and Snocountry, allow consumers to create notifications for their personalised perfect conditions at favorite surf and snow locations. The Mission Trace app is a custom activity-tracking platform developed in partnership with Trace, the leader in action sports activity tracking. Designed to pair seamlessly with the Trace activity tracking technology, the Mission allows consumers to track sessions at a pro-level and easily view and share stats during activity.

Priced starting at $599.99, The Mission will be available 11 October, 2016 at consumer electronics retailers JB HiFi and at David Jones; as well as select Nixon retailers, including: Kirra Surf, Fast Times, Culture Kings and Slimes, (plus more), Nixon stores globally; and online.
