Fitness Industry Ignited With History Making Event

On 22 February 2019, for the first time in the history, the Australian fitness industry,  experienced IGNITE FITNESS, a unique event format that has been recently popularised in the USA.

Facilitated by fitness business innovator and educator Mel Tempest, the inaugural IGNITE FITNESS was a sold-out event, which saw gym business owners, operators and managers convene at the Crowne Plaza in Melbourne, in the spirit of collaboration, to ignite and encourage mutual success.

“This event was designed specifically to teach and empower business owners and managers with practical knowledge about metrics and numbers; fitness registration options; franchising options; sales tools and the power of body language; the power of partnerships; and lots more,” Tempest explained.

“I also really wanted to create a platform where new educators coming into the industry would be given the opportunity to display their skills, as well as an environment to facilitate discussions about real-life business scenarios,” Tempest added. “And I also wanted to provide access to expertise that can make a significant difference in the way they operate and ultimately, their bottom line.”

“It was a fast-paced and jam-packed day. We had guest speakers fly in from the Gold Coast and Sydney and Adam from Novofit, literally, came from the airport to the event, having just arrived from the USA, to share his first-hand insights into the current trends in boutique fitness studios, and the programming hits and misses happening abroad.”

The one-day event comprised of six rounds of ‘speed dating’ roundtable consultations; industry-leading guest speakers Steve Jensen, James Short and Paul Brown; 9 Ignite Talks (5-minute quick-fire presentations), and networking opportunities.

Tempest also shared her own inspiring life story, which has been documented in a book.

As the owner of the event, she felt it was important that people understood her background and why she is so passionately committed to providing opportunities, demanding accountability, and insisting on transparency.

Feedback from attendees was consistently positive, with comments received including:

“Ignite was a great success! Inspiring stories with a great range of knowledgeable presenters, and the roundtable format allowed for a more interactive session with presenters.”

“We owe a great thanks to our highly supportive event sponsors, which included Debitsuccess, Coaching Zone®, Novofit, FourD Media, FITREC, Australasian Leisure Management and MYZONE™,” said Tempest.

“IGNITE FITNESS was such a resounding success here in Australia,” says Tempest “that I’ve since been invited to deliver it in June in Singapore, as part of FitnessSG and the ExPro fitness convention.”
