The premiere of a The Will To Fly, the story of Lydia Lassila Gold Winter Olympian and mother will be held on Thursday 10 March at Lido Cinema in Hawthorn (VIC) at 6.30pm and the film opens at various cinemas around the country on the same day.
The Will To Fly film showcases young determined Lydia at Mt Buller back in 1999 fresh out of gymnastics snow ploughing down the mountain for the first time, to dominating to world’s number one at the 2005 Mt Buller World Aerials Event! The film also showcases other freestyle pioneers Kirstie Marshall, Jacqui Cooper and Alisa Camplin all having roots to Mt Buller.
Mt Buller is home to the Australian Aerial Ski Team.
This film shows the progression of Lydia from a young age to conquering her goals and reaching her long held ambition to win an Olympic Gold Medal. The film documents her ‘will to fly’.
Lydia was world number one, won numerous World Championships and an Olympic Gold before becoming a mother and then returning to the sport she loves and becoming the first female to perform the quad twisting triple somersault, a trick only men had mastered up until then, on the way to winning an Olympic Bronze.
