Pearl iZUMi Bundy Run And CamelBak Highland Fling

The inaugural Pearl iZUMi Bundy Run kicked off a weekend of active adventures in the Southern Highlands last weekend.

On Saturday 7th November 2015, Bundanoon, a scenic town in the New South Wales Southern Highlands, welcomed around 200 runners to experience a new and exciting trail running event on the calendar – the Pearl iZUMi Bundy Run.

The event joined an already established weekend of mountain bike racing, the CamelBak Highland Fling, to create a truly off-road adventure weekend that saw athletes either choose to both run and ride, or support a partner or friend who was there to do the opposite race.

In classic Highlands fashion, a warm morning turned to a cooler afternoon with mist settling around the town, providing a perfect temperature and stunningly beautiful setting for runners ready to tackle one of three distances – The Teaser (6km), Quarter Marathon (10.5km) and Half Marathon (21km) with each distance designed to test skill and endurance with 185m, 400m and 800m climbs respectively.

On the gun runners streamed from the town centre and made their way into the Morton National Park, hugging the southern side of the town and including a diversity of bushland, quiet streams, soaring cliffs and spectacular views across inaccessible valleys.

Event feedback from racers has been overwhelmingly positive with ‘spectacular’, ‘challenging’ and ‘we can’t wait for next year’ definitely common in the same sentence.

From Facebook: “That was the hardest, but most fun technical trail I have ever done. It was well marked out, the event crew was brilliant and the meal at the end made it so much more of a social event. I met some great new people and had a ball.”

Charlie Nowacki for Pearl iZUMi Australia: “The course was fantastic. Personally, I like a challenge and boy, this did not disappoint – steep hills, punchy climbs, creek crossings and spectacular scenery. It really did have everything. I’m so happy Pearl iZUMi is a part of it and am really looking forward to next year…maybe not chasing the winner this time, but taking line honors.”
