VIC, Australia, August 2018
Johnson Health Tech (JHT) has appointed Barry McDonald as National Sales Manager of the Australia Commercial Division.
McDonald, who joined JHT’s Australian Subsidiary in 2016 with extensive experience across the commercial fitness industry, will oversee the entire Australian and New Zealand commercial market from the Victoria-based head office.
McDonald has been promoted from his role as National Independent Sales Manager of the Matrix Fitness commercial team after proven success in the role, including multiple partnerships to supply fitness equipment for health club franchises including Fernwood Fitness, Listen To Your Body, Vision Personal Training, Pinnacle Health Clubs and Re-Creation Health Clubs.
An industry professional of over 14 years, McDonald has served in management roles for several fitness companies.
He served a 4-year tenor at YMCA Victoria rising to Health and Fitness Director, followed by 5 years with Goodlife Health Clubs in roles of increasing responsibility, including State Fitness Director for Victoria. In 2012, McDonald launched his own business called PT Trainee; an education provider specialising in creating business tools for personal trainers and health professionals. Later, McDonald would serve as Victorian Account Manager for The Fitness Generation before joining Johnson Health Tech Australia in 2016.
“For Johnson Health Tech to become the biggest and best fitness company in Australia, we must have top-class leadership in each and every department we operate,” said Michael Conlan, Managing Director of Johnson Health Tech Australia. “Barry McDonald brings to this position experience in leadership, combined with his unique understanding of our industry, our business and the Matrix brand. He will provide the leadership we need to achieve our goals moving forward.”
“We’re well positioned in Australia to build on the global momentum that Matrix has achieved over the past several years,” McDonald stated.
“We have built a solid foundation from which we can grow the Matrix brand in Australia, and I am eager to further build on the progress we’ve made to achieving our goals. I’m looking forward to working side-by-side with our outstanding team to continue to create greater value for our customers in a way that helps shape the future of our company.”
McDonald has been handed the role from John Mullen, who served 8 years at Johnson Health Tech Australia out of the Queensland Office. Mullen has been pivotal in building the Matrix brand in Australia over the last decade, securing partnerships with the FLG Group; parent company of fitness chains Goodlife Health Clubs, Fitness First, Jetts and Zap Fitness, and Lift Brands; parent company to Snap Fitness. Johnson Health Tech wishes John and his family all the best success for the future.
