The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) has teamed up with worldwide gym finder TrainAway to digitalise its passport program.
Members of IHRSA clubs can now buy discounted day pass access to clubs in the program around the world when they travel, via the TrainAway digital platform
Bryan O’Rourke, president of the Fitness Industry Technology Council (FIT-C) explains that with increase global reliance on apps around the world, this is the right time for the fitness industry. He adds “and since this application doesn’t require an interface with a club’s billing systems or other information, and is easy for members to use, it should significantly increase participation in the IHRSA Passport Program.”
The move was as a result of demand from IHRSA members, and IHRSA’s choice of TrainAway was based on its ease-of-use and lack of investment required on the part of IHRSA member clubs. “all the need to do, whether or not they’ve participated in the Passport before, is simply to enrol with TrainAway”.
Members of independent clubs have the chance of being part of a network, so they can access fitness facilities at discount rate when away from home.
Clubs enrol through an online form. When travellers arrive they just show a ‘purchased’ pass on their phone to reception staff to be allowed access. At the end of the month TrainAway send the clubs revenue earned from all day passes sold to their club
The TrainAway solution has received great reviews from fitness operators, because of the benefits to members, the ease of use and the control it gives clubs.
Troy Freet, CIO of EOS Fitness in California, Arizona & Nevada, points out that “It’s an easy way for [members] to find and purchase day passes when they’re away from home.”
Darcy Wefers of Cambridge Group of Clubs in Toronto concur this view, and adds that the removal of paperwork is a game changer for the Passport Program: “For our clubs, there’s no paperwork, and, for members, it expands the network of clubs and makes check in seamless. The TrainAway digital platform is clearly the way of the future”.
For TrainAway’s part, the IHRSA network of clubs gives the platform a unique change to develop more partnerships with health clubs all over the world.
This will improve the platforms coverage significantly and move it closer to being a one-stop solution for travellers who are seeking access to a gym virtually anywhere.
