Oceanway Ride – Surfers Paradise
September 3, 2016
Surfers Paradise – Saturday 3 September, 2016
The inaugural Oceanway Ride will take place at world renowned Surfers Paradise in the heart of the Gold Coast on Saturday 3, September 2016.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of budding cyclists, families, first timers and more experienced riders to enjoy a bike ride along one of the world’s most spectacular coastlines.
Courses are not a race but have been designed to offer participants one of the most beautiful journeys that can be taken by bike in a safe and fun environment for all.
“The Oceanway Ride will encourage healthy, active lifestyles and showcase the Gold Coast’s most precious commodity. We want everyone to hop on a bike, celebrate the beauty of the Gold Coast, and support our surf lifesavers and clubs”, said Kate Riley, Creator and Director of Oceanway Ride
There are three course options to choose from, all of which showcase the beautiful shoreline of the Gold Coast:
Staminade Ultimate Oceanway Ride – 55km
Starting under the world famous Surfers Paradise sign, participants begin their 55km coastal journey south to Point Danger and return enjoying the sights that the Gold Coast is renowned for.
Family / Tourist Ride Loop – 4km
Starting under the world famous Surfers Paradise sign, participants begin their 4km coastal journey north to Narrowneck and return to take in the magnificent views that Main Beach has to offer with the option to turnaround and do it all over again.
Little Legs Criterium – 250m loop (3 – 7 years)
Gold Coin Donation (100% proceeds go to Surf Lifesaving)
A dedicated course alongside the Surfers Paradise foreshore, where kids from as little as three years of age can experience their own criterium.
The Oceanway Ride coincides with the official start of the 2016 Gold Coast Surf Lifesaving beach patrol season and to support volunteer Surf Lifesavers, 10% of the entry cost will be used to purchase surf rescue equipment for Gold Coast Surf Lifesaving Clubs to protect the 1.2million people that swim between the red and yellow flags each year.
The Surfers Paradise foreshore will come alive with a host of activities over the Father’s Day weekend for riders, friends, family and spectators alike.
The Oceanway Ride Surfers Paradise precinct will come alive with an entertainment program that has something for everyone.
Starting Friday the two day Oceanway Ride Sports and Health & Wellbeing Expo is a free community event aimed to encourage the Gold Coast community and its visitors to get involved in physical activity, healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
There will also be live entertainment, free rides, face painting, a cycling trade show and special celebrity appearances over the two days including the legendary voice of cycling Event Ambassador Phil Liggett.
