International Year of Pulses Health Symposium: On The Pulse
May 2, 2016
On the Pulse: the latest evidence of health benefits, innovations and intake recommendations for pulses
Save the Date: Monday 2 May 2016, SAHMRI Institute, Adelaide
Pulses, including beans, peas, lentils and lupins, have been recognised for centuries as a cornerstone of a healthy diet in many cultures. However, research is only starting to unlock the mechanisms to explain their role in a range of conditions, from gut health to cognitive decline.
At this one-day symposium, leading researchers will examine the latest research on the health effects of pulses and highlight research gaps, introduce intriguing new innovations being used to incorporate pulses in to the diet and identify opportunities for future work. International guest speaker, Chris Marinangeli, will present the recent global consensus on recommended intakes.
The On the Pulse symposium is being run by the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council on behalf of the Australian National Committee celebrating 2016 United Nations International Year of Pulses, proudly supported by Blue Ribbon & Foods from the Earth. The Symposium is sponsored by the Nutrition Society of Australia. Symposium partners are CSIRO, the International Life Sciences Institute and the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology.
