“Bokwa Fitness is an exercise dance class that combines cardio conditioning, strength training and flexibility. Furthermore, it integrates customary African dance with boxing manoeuvres. The name came from a combination of two other words; “BO” stands for light boxing and “KWA” symbolizes the traditional dance Kwaito.”
Bokwa was created by Paul Mavi, who drew from his South African roots as a dancer and musician over an 8 year period. Mavi is an international fitness personality and leading Los Angeles based Group Fitness Instructor. Bokwa’s following has grown globally since it’s creator Mavi teamed up with Johann Verheem – a direct response TV and fitness entrepreneur.
