Australia’s Newest Bachelor Is PT, Sam Wood

Australia’s next Bachelor has been revealed.

The brave man locked in for the third season of Ten’s dating show has been named as Tasmanian born Sam Wood, a 34-year-old personal trainer now based in Melbourne.

The up-and-coming reality TV star is the Founder/Managing Director of Gecko Kids, a children’s health and fitness company.

Wood launched the first kids activity centre in 2006 in Brighton, Victoria and has now expanded to more than 35 locations around Australia.

“Being the Bachelor is a real privilege and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I plan on embracing the experience with an open mind, while wearing my heart on my sleeve,” he said of his new role in the spotlight.

“I hope to find a woman with whom I share a sense of fun, an undeniable chemistry and a mutual respect. Ultimately I’m searching for the love of my life. I’m going to throw myself into the adventure and I’m prepared to have the absolute time of my life.”

Wood, who studied Applied Science at the Australian Catholic University, told Swisse News of starting up his company: “I loved working with kids of all ages and fitness levels, helping them improve in all areas of fitness, confidence and self esteem, but I wanted to do more. Working as a trainer I had the ability to see 30 kids a week.

“My passion continues with the love I have for owning my own business. With an entrepreneurial father in the hospitality industry, I think business was something I was destined to do. The challenge, freedom and exhilaration is addictive and although there is stress and pressure, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.”

Bachelor host Osher Günsberg described Wood as “the kind of guy any man would want to be mates with. His down-to-earth approach to life and charming smile conceal a driven businessman, someone who has worked hard to build a great life for himself.”

Fans of the show are already drawing comparisons between the fitness guru and Australia’s first Bachelor, Tim Robards, who won over the ladies (and Australia) with his endearing nature and shy on-screen persona. It looks like the show’s producers might be attempting to replicate the success of season one after last season’s controversial outcome.

Unlike Robards however, Wood has already had plenty of on-camera experience, doing media appearances and promotional videos as part of his role as director of Gecko Kids. Check him out in this Swisse Vitamins clip from 2013.

Production of the third season is already underway, with Clifton mansion in Sydney’s Hunters Hill to be used as the show’s setting once again. Residents in the quiet street were reportedly peeved to discover that their peace would disturbed for the second year in a row.

The Bachelor Australia season three is coming soon to Ten.
